Saturday Evening Post covers approximately 5” x 7”. The left cover, titled "The Double Ride," is from October 3, 1936, and depicts an older couple weighing themselves on a scale. The right cover portrays a young boy and girl with a soda and balloon. Both are by Leslie Thrasher.
The left cover, "Tipping the Scales," is a well-known piece, often mistaken for a Norman Rockwell painting due to its humor and realism. Thrasher, like Rockwell, was a realist painter, and this particular cover was used again in 1975 as a cookbook cover. The cover features a middle-aged woman and man weighing themselves on a scale.
The right cover, from June 8, 1936, depicts a boy with a straw and a girl with a soda. The two are sitting on bar stools. This cover also showcases Thrasher's ability to capture everyday life.
