These bowls were handcrafted in the United States by Fire & Light Originals, a company formed in 1995 in Humboldt County, CA, as a partnership with the Arcata Community Recycling Center. They are known for their distinctive line of colored glass tableware made by melting crushed recycled glass and pressing it into various forms, including bowls, plates, and glasses.
Unique Patterning: The "Puka" pattern, visible as a textured, dimpled design, was uniquely created using a 1930s sewing machine foot treadle found in a salvage yard, which was pressed into the molten glass during the forming process. Glows but is not true Depression glass.
Recycled Material: Fire & Light was committed to sustainability, using recycled glass in their products, having recycled millions of bottles & jars and reusing cardboard for packaging. Unfortunately, they closed in early 2019.
